It is a beautiful language that can convey all emotions of life and one that has been used by the wisest of beings to achieve enlightenment. In the past, through skilful manoeuvring of this revered language, millions of Arahants were gifted to the world. The eternal truth which exists in the world to this day, the unaltered Dhamma of the Supreme Buddha, was put down in writing by about 500 Arahants using the letters of the Sinhala language. Among all the languages that exist in the world today, the Sinhala language is the one that makes it easiest to clearly comprehend the true meaning of this noble Dhamma.
Therefore, the opportunity provided by the MSSA to study this noble language is an extremely rare fortune for you living in this country. Even our Arahant Mihindu Thera used Sinhala to explain this Dhamma, which was originally in the Pāli language. With the establishment of the Gautama Supreme Buddha’s dispensation in Sri Lanka, the then-existing culture of Sri Lanka was abandoned and was, in turn, replaced by a new culture that was nourished by the noble Dhamma. This was one of the finest cultures in the world, with its cultural aspects leading us towards the path of Dhamma, engaging us in merit and adding meaning to our lives. The Sinhala alphabet, which was used by the Arahants for writing the Tripitaka, is the one still in use today. Therefore, to teach your child, as well, this splendid and profound Sinhala language, the Sinhala language school is held on the 1st, 3rd and 4th Sunday of every month from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm.
